3 Quick Tips for Homeschooling During the Holidays

Hey, Reader!

It’s been a little while since I’ve reached out due to hardships and life, but I hope your homeschool days are going well. As we head into the holiday season, I know how chaotic things can get—balancing lessons, activities, and all the festivities.

So, I wanted to share some quick tips and resources to make this season a little smoother for you and your family. I hope they help!

3 Quick Tips for Homeschooling During the Holidays

1. Plan for Flexibility

Instead of rigid schedules, try a holiday-themed unit study. For example, explore winter traditions around the world or dive into seasonal science experiments.

MEL Science, who we've vetted and heavily approved for their great secular material, is doing a great holiday deal on science kits!

2. Combine Learning with Tasks

Use holiday prep as an opportunity for hands-on learning—baking cookies? That’s math and science. Writing holiday cards? There’s your language arts lesson!

There are a few different online educational experiences that could be fun for the whole family. I prefer on-demand videos such as this course that's all about reconnecting with your creativity through drawing. It was a perfect mom/daughter activity here this past week.

3. Give Yourself a Deserved Break

It’s okay to scale back or take a few days off. Learning happens in so many ways—sometimes just snuggling up with a good book or movie teaches as much as a formal lesson.

If this holiday month is easiest without lessons or educational intention...that's perfectly fine. Homeschooling is about experiencing life, stillness, and personal exploration as well as academics.

Sure, it's weird that a homeschooling newsletter is suggesting you take the holidays off from homeschooling, but here we are. Maybe your kid has wanted to try something new, like learning how to run a game of Dungeons & Dragons!

Wishing you a joyful (and peaceful) holiday season,

P.S. I’ve rounded up more Black Friday and Cyber Monday homeschool deals here if you’re looking for ways to save on educational goldmines.
